Sakura season in Japan lives up to all the hype and then some. It’s a beautiful time of the year to visit Japan. Stores are packed with all things cherry blossom – Sakura sake, Sakura Kit Kats, and even Sakura beer. I was lucky enough to catch the tail end of Sakura season on my two week visit.

When I stepped into Sumida Park in Tokyo, I stood in awe surrounded by petals and serene scenes of people just enjoying the beauty in front of them. This was on the first full day of my trip and I chased all the parks and temples that were still in bloom on the remainder of my trip throughout Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. It’s hard to plan but the season is roughly around March to April and the blooming varies in regions of Japan. There are plenty of sites that keep a pretty accurate track the season.

Business men & women, families, and groups of friends all gather outdoors during this time to have group picnics. Everyone sits under the cherry blossom trees as the wind rains down petals from the trees. It’s truly as magical as it sounds and looks. Add this to the million and one reasons to visit Japan. I’ve been to Japan twice and plan on visiting a few more times in my life.
